Food Backpacks - Meeting the Need
Without the support of our community, a need would not be met.
This is the 3rd year for the backpack project at CP Elementary. It is headed up by individuals at the New Hope Church on 700 South. At the beginning of the year, needy families are determined by the administration at CPE. Up the 20 families are sent a letter explaining the program and asking then if they would want to participate. If they do, they sign and return the permission letter and the week of Labor Day backpacks full of supplementary, kid-friendly food is sent home with the kids. This food is to supplement the family food over the weekend when they do not get free breakfast and/or free lunches at school. This is a nationwide program; however, our program is sponsored and run by local churches, individuals and businesses in the CP school district. The students are to return the backpacks on Mondays and they are filled and brought to the school so they can be distributed late on Friday afternoon.
The following businesses, churches and individuals are partnering together to carry out this local mission project this year:
- New Hope Church
- Jefferson UM Church
- Antioch Church
- Scotland Church
- Manson Church
- Gloria Dei Church
- Mulberry UM Church
- Mulberry Trinity Church
- Mulberry Men's Golf League
- Mulberry Telecommunications
- monetary and food donations by several individuals.
